The Lounge: Finale (Part 5)
I woke to Christina glaring at me from the doorway.
“WAKE THE FUCK UP RAELENE! WE’RE LEAVING. NOW.”
I turned in a stupor, and saw Karen to my left, sans clothing. The perky breast that had her wife’s name on it was staring at me as I adjusted myself to reality.
“What? I …what time is…?”
Christina was absolutely enraged, “It’s six in the fucking morning. YOU left me out there for hours.”
“Christina. I thought…”
“Raelene if you’re not in the car in 1 minute, I’m leaving you.” Her furious stomping shook dust from the floorboards as she carried out her threat by going to her vehicle without me.
“Guess she’s leavin’ ya!” Karen was waking up slowly, but was still managing to joke about the situation, which I did not find so hilarious.
“I don’t want to leave.”
As I said this, I noticed I was rising despite my body’s admonitions. I scrawled my cellphone number on a paper found next to one of many golden keys strewn on the dresser. I went back to the bed and lay next to her once more. Her beautiful plumes of hair were disheveled and her bright blue eyes appeared tired.
Nestled between her soft hair and her earlobe, I sent out my message, “I want to see you again.”
“Izz dat right?” she slurred and gave a wistful smile.
“I do. I wrote my number so please call me.”
I turned for the entranceway before she could disappoint me by saying something I could not bear, like promises of her wife’s return. Although I was shocked by all the things I found out, I still wanted her. Our lovemaking had only cemented our connection.
But stone cold reality awaited me; the sun was up and especially brilliant but I felt nostalgic, lonely and weighed down by dread.
“Goddamn. I can’t BELIEVE YOU,” spat Christina when I slumped down into the seat of the car.
“Calm the fuck down. You were fine before I don’t understand why you’re flipping out.”
“What the fuck is this!? The Golden Girls? I don’t want to hear it. You spent all night screwing some old hag while I had to drink beer on the patio. Furthermore, my gas tank is on EMPTY. I’M TIRED…you know, I’m glad you had fun but you know this shit is fucked up.”
Her lip was curled with anger as she shifted the wheel and stepped on the gas; we sped toward my house as the sun came from the sea, illuminating everything in yellowed morning-light.
I hopped from her vehicle with a quickness when we arrived in front of my house, “I’m going to sleep. Thanks.”
“Yeah. You owe me like…40 dollars. I drove you around all fucking night.”
I tossed her a 20 to shut her up. “Do you think she’ll call me?”
Although Christina was fuming for no apparent reason, I still valued her opinion. I could still feel Karen’s lips on the sensitive part of my neck, it’d only been an hour and I already missed her…
“No. Dude. I already told you. She’s too old. SHE’S MARRIED. If you fucked her it was a one night stand…and even if you didn’t…it’s still not going to happen.” The smell of burning rubber punctuated her sentence as she peeled out of my neighborhood with Tegan and Sara blaring from the car speakers.
Once inside the house, I slipped into bed and slipped into a fitful sleep that I came out of 8 hours later.
Hung-over and half-sick, I reached for my cellphone.“I’ve been thinking of you all day…every time I think of your face baby, I smile. Call me! -Karen”
I love Kat Von D and have been watching LA Ink for days. She’s the queen of makeup and that signature rock n’ roll style, which serves as a constant beauty inspiration!
